Program Overview
The Personal Support Worker program at Oxford College prepares students for careers in a range of healthcare settings. Our diploma program gives you the hands-on training and theoretical knowledge required for a rewarding career as a personal support worker.
The conference board of Canada is reporting that 21.3% of health care workers will be eligible for retirement by 2026. The DEMAND to replace these workers will only grow.
As a personal support worker, you will provide personal care and companionship to seniors, persons with disabilities, and convalescent clients. Care is provided within the client’s residence, in which the home support worker may also reside. Personal support workers ensure the safety and well-being of their clients, and demonstrate sensitivity and respect for each individual in their care.

Students will learn how to:
- Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence, or family disruption
- Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
- Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
- Perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, assisting in the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of a home care agency supervisor or nurse
- Perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes, and making beds
Program duration: 30 Weeks
Career Opportunities
Graduates are employed by home care and support agencies and private households, or they may be self-employed.

- Payment Plan
A simple plan may be available that spreads out the costs of your education monthly over the duration of your study period. For students who qualify, a monthly payment plan may be extended beyond the end of your study period. Bad credit and no established credit can often be overcome.
